The REAL "MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD":-

The various Math contests listed above give you great practice and inculcate interest in Maths, with sense of achievement in case you get some good ranks, but the one and the only REAL Math Olympiad is the “IMO” or “International Mathematical Olympiad”.
It is the toughest high school level Math competition held annually in a different country. At the most only six students from each country are allowed to participate at the IMO. Its like the Olympics of Mathematics. So, even the selection level exams are quite difficult to crack.
In India, the selection is done at various stages through exams conducted by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education(HBCSE), TIFR, Mumbai. The stages are briefed below:
Stage-1-IOQM : The first qualifier exam is a three hour examination, Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) with 24-30 questions. Around 900 students are selected based on different criteria to sit for the stage-2 exam.
Stage-2-INMO: The students selected through IOQM are allowed to appear in Indian National Mathematical Olympiad(INMO) is a four hour exam with 6 questions. Only 35 to 40 students are shortlisted for further stages.
Stage-3-IMOTC: The selected 35 to 40 students go through rigorous training called IMO Training Camp(IMOTC) and compete against each other to qualify for the next stage.
Stage-4-Pre Departure Camp: Only 6 students are shortlisted from Stage-3 and given rigorous training at HBCSE to prepare compete at the International level. Click here for the official website of HBSCE to get into the detail of procedures and previous years selections to IMO to get the real feel of the REAL Mathematical Olympiad.
Stage-5-IMO: Six students representing India compete with students from all over the world in the most prestigious and the actual REAL Mathematical Olympiad the “International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO)” . The exam generally consists of 6 questions to be solved in nine hours and is hosted by different country every year. Click here to check the official page of the REAL and  the ONLY IMO, for the motivation !! Its like the Olympics of Mathematics.
